LeMars’ shuts out ELC again

Estherville Lincoln Central fared a little better in the second meeting with LeMars. But the Bulldogs still shut out the Midgets 4-0 on Monday.

LeMars had won 11-0 in five innings in the teams' first meeting on June 12.

While ELC limited the Bulldogs' scoring, the Midgets only had four base runners all night.

LeMars ace Molly Renken threw a one-out game with 11 strikeouts, one walk and a hit batter. The Bulldog defense had just one error.

ELC's Liz Brashear pitched well in the contest, giving up eight hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

LeMars did most of its damage in the first inning scoring three runs with two outs. MaryKate Eckstaine had a two RBI single and Renken helped her cause with an RBI double in the inning. The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the top of the fifth.

ELC's Emily Kirchner had the lone hit, a leadoff single in the bottom of the fourth inning.

ELC (16-10 overall) is at Storm Lake on Wednesday.

The ELC JV (8-7-1) lost 3-2 to LeMars. Carson Gjerde pitched five innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts and three walks. At the plate, Megan Jensen was 0-2, but drew a walk and scored a run. Joslyn Moore was 1-2 with a double. Gjerde drew two walks and scored a run. Jerica Walters was 1-2.
