Super Saturday for arts and culture in Estherville

July 9, 2013
Estherville Daily News

If you're a fan of the arts and are looking for something to do this weekend, just check out Estherville this Saturday.

Joel Jurrens will hold a signing for his novel, In The Sticks, from 10 a.m. to noon at Simply Unique at 610 Central Ave. in Estherville. Jurrens, a former Emmet County sheriff's deputy, has put his considerable law enforcement background to use in the novel in which the protagonist, Lyle Hoffman, goes about solving the murder of a beautiful young woman. In the course of the investigation, Hoffman discovers that city fathers in some of the highest places are involved.

Jurrens' signing is sponsored by the Excel! Estherville Arts & Culture committee.

At the same time, starting at 10 a.m., there will be a 90-minute walking history tour of North Sixth Street from Central Avenue to First Avenue North, sponsored by the Emmet County Historical Society, Emmet County Genealogy Society and the Estherville Public Library.

The tour will first meet at the library and after the tour everyone will meet at the library for coffee. This is a great way to learn more about Estherville an its history and the people and places who made us the town we are today.

Both events are free of charge and are bound to be highly educational, so try to attend one - or both - if at all possible.
