By Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer , Estherville Daily News

The first ever Back to School Bash, sponsored by Estherville Lincoln Central School District and Iowa Lakes Community College, will be held 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Estherville Lincoln Central.

ELC superintendent Tara Paul told Estherville Rotarians Thursday about the event which is intended to celebrate the start of the new academic year for all students in the

Estherville community and which is open to all community members so they can come out and show their support for students and to enjoy a free meal and activities.

"This back to school event will help to provide our students the positive interactions with their own families as well as the community to help them look forward to the new and successful school year," stated a letter that Paul distributed to Rotarians.

Businesses community members are asked to show their support by volunteering to help or to provide an activity area such as a dunk tank, duck races, cotton candy machine or other event. They may also set up a table with free school supplies or donate to help support the event.

Paul told Rotarians Iowa Lakes will host the event next year.

Rotarians Thursday also heard from Shane Kalous, new elementary principal at ELC, and Nathan Essary, the new middle-school principal.

"It's a great fit for both of us," Kalous said. Essary echoed Kalous' comments, saying, "We have come across a lot of very generous people."

Kevin Sander presented a past president's plaque to Chris Fuhrman.

In other matters, Sander noted the district governor would visit the club Aug. 1. Mike Martens reminded everyone of the Heroes Behind the Badge blood drive Tuesday, July 16 at Avera Holy Family Hospital. The blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2:30-5 p.m. No appointment is necessary.

Paul thanked Avera Holy

Family for donating two permanent defibrillators for the high school.
