This year is the 16th annual Estherville Sweet Corn Days. Come celebrate our sweet 16 with us on Aug. 1-4. Sweet Corn Days is a longstanding Estherville tradition that gets bigger and better every year.
Events range from Friday night family night to inflatable rides on Saturday to a street dance on Saturday night. There are activities for the young and young at heart. Kickoff is Thursday with the Burning of the Cobs ceremony which even includes free smores. Friday night is family night with tons of activities for the kids. There will be an adult 18-plus comedy show late on Friday night, be sure to get your tickets now - $8 if you buy early or $10 at the door, limited number of tickets sold. Friday night ends with the bang of FIREWORKS. They will be even bigger and better than last year.
Saturday is the main day of fun. Run for the Cob is bright and early Saturday morning with a 5k, 10k and half-marathon option. It is a great way to burn some calories before you try all the downtown food vendors in the afternoon. The parade is one of the largest in the area with over an hour of entertainment. One of the most unique activities is the duck derby. There will be 1,000 ducks dropped down the West Fork of the Des Moines River and the first duck to the finish line wins $500. The next five ducks to the finish line win $100 each. Get your ducks now at the Chamber, one duck three bucks two ducks five bucks. This year there are several new events including a free family comedian, an antique tractor show and rodeo, motorcycle fun run and pancake breakfast.
Of course the most famous attraction is the free sweet corn. After the parade there will be 500 dozen ears of sweet corn, given out - that's 6,000 ears. Volunteers shuck and cook the corn outside for everyone to watch. It is quite the sight. Enjoy Iowa's favorite treat for free with all your friends and family, and maybe stash some floss in your pocket.
The Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce has been planning this large event for months and can't wait for it to get here. Check out www.Estherville.org for more information, a complete schedule and to register for events like the parade and Run for the Cob.
We can't wait to see you at the 16th annual Estherville Sweet Corn Days, Aug. 1-4.
