Emmet County Fair, an all-American event

July 22, 2013
Estherville Daily News

The Emmet County Fair will be held this coming Thursday through Sunday, July 25-28, and there are a lot of reasons everyone should go.

First of all, it's fun. You'll find a number of free events, like exhibits, livestock shows, the fashion show and fair queen contest Thursday night, tractor pull, Rill Riley Talent Show, free movie Friday night, free magic show and hypnosis show Saturday, free fair supper Saturday night and church service Sunday.

You'll also get to give 4-Hers and FFA members the recognition they deserve for all the work they've put into their livestock and exhibits. These kids, in many cases, have put sweat, tears (and, yes, maybe even a little blood) into their projects. When adults are there to see them with their animals or standing beside their exhibits, they're telling these kids all their effort was worth it.

It's also a great deal. So when was the last time you had free entertainment like the fashion show and fair queen contest Thursday night, the free Friday night movie or the free fair supper Saturday night? Well, a lot of sponsors are seeing to it that these events are free to the public, so the least we can do is get out and thank them.

The fair is also a longstanding tradition that we want to see continue for many years to come - and by just being there, we're showing our support.

So, please come and make your presence known and enjoy the Emmet County fair. It's a local and Iowa treasure - this Thursday through Sunday at the Emmet County Fairgrounds.
