From a field of six, the Emmet County Fair Queen and Princess were chosen Thursday evening, the first night of the 2013 event.

Rebecca Lair was crowned queen while Leslie Brandt earned princess honors.

Lair, a member of the Twelve Mile Lakers 4-H Club, said her favorite part of the fair is the beef show.

"I love getting up early and working with the cows all day," Lair said. "I also like getting to hang out with people from around that county that I don't always get to see."

Lair will represent Emmet County at the 2013 Iowa State Fair Queen Pageant in August.

Meanwhile Brandt, a member of the Iowa Lakes 4-H Club, brought her 100th project to the fair this year.

"I like talking with the judges about my static exhibits," she said.

Brandt said she enjoys 4-H because there are opportunities for everyone-from trips to day camps and workshops.

The fair has more for those not a member of 4-H or FFA today and Saturday.

The Carolan Rides are open from noon to 9 p.m. each day as are the commercial buildings.

Friday's activities include the Cattleman's Supper from 5-7 p.m., the tractor pull at 6:30 and the Bill Riley Talent Show at 7:30 p.m.

A free movie will be shown in the Eagle Lake Building at 9 p.m.
