Three people suffered injuries in an accident early Tuesday morning in northwest Emmet County.
Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens reports that at 2:36 a.m. on Tuesday the sheriff's office received a report from the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office of a single vehicle traffic accident with injuries that had occurred in northwest Emmet County. Upon investigation it was determined that the accident had occurred in the 3400 block of 130th street near the Emmet/Dickinson County line or 3 1/2 miles northwest of Estherville
Upon further investigation at the scene the driver, 19-year-old Danielle Rizor of Ringsted reported swerving to miss a deer that had entered the roadway when she lost control of the vehicle.
Upon investigation it was determined that Rizor's vehicle, a 2004 Volkswagon Jetta, was westbound on 130th street when it entered the eastbound lane before skidding out of control and leaving the roadway to the north, where it entered the north ditch and vaulted a field approach before coming to rest.
Rizor, as well as front seat passenger 15-year-old Megan Triggs of Estherville and a back seat passenger 22-year-old Steven Hatland of Dolliver were all transported to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville for treatment of their injuries by the Estherville Ambulance Service. Hatland had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Estherville Fire Department and their "Jaws of Life" before he could be transported.
The sheriff's office was assisted at the scene by the Estherville Police Department. It is believed that alcohol is a contributing factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.
