SPIRIT LAKE - Spirit Lake's season-ending loss to Kuemper Catholic in the first round of the Class 2A State Tournament signaled the end of rollercoaster 2013 season.
The Indians had a great regular season start (11-2), followed by a poor finish (2-8) before winning three postseason games to earn their first trip to the state tournament.
Spirit Lake finished in fourth in Lakes Conference play with a 7-7 record.
Five Spirit Lake players landed on the All-Lakes Conference Team.
Senior catcher Nick Amundson and senior pitcher/utility infielder Brandon Stoll both earned first team honors for the second year in a row.
On the mound, Stoll went 4-0 in league play with a 1.08 earned run average. He struck out 40 batters in 26 innings.
Amundson batted .357 in league play with 15 hits including four doubles, two triples and six RBIs.
Earning second team honors as an infielder was Paul Brown. He finished with a .238 batting average in league play with 10 hits including three doubles and two RBIs. He had an on-base percentage of .333.
Earning honorable mention were junior outfielder Nile Skogerboe and senior infielder Reece Salmon. Skogerboe finished with a .243 average in league play with nine hits and four RBIs. Salmon batted .297 with 11 hits and 11 RBIs in league play. He had an on-base percentage of .447.
