Warriors, Titans both represented on Cornbelt All-Conference teams

North Union's 7-1 league record gave them another Cornbelt Conference title in 2013. Warrior coach Chad Slagle earned the conference's coach of the year honors for his teams play.

Eight North Union players earned all-conference honors. Sophomore pitcher Corey Vaske, junior first baseman Spencer Ricke, freshman second baseman Colin Runksmeier, senior third baseman Sawyer Doocy, junior outfielder Garrett Johnson and junior utility player Cody Runksmeier earned first team honors.

Senior outfielder Alex Deitering and senior utility player Jake Adams earned second team honors.

Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire, which finished 5-3 in conference play, had three players on the all-conference teams.

Senior Blaze Alesch earned first team honors as a utility player. Freshman catcher Michael Girres and senior outfielder Logan Flaharty received second team honors.

For North Union, Vaske finished league play with a 2-0 record. He pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three earned runs with a 3.94 EAR. But opponents batted .0.059 against him.

Ricke batted .327 in league play with 11 hits including four doubles and 10 RBIs.

Colin Runksmeier batted .261 with six hits and seven RBIs.

Doocy batted .375 with nine hits including four doubles, a home run and six RBIs. He also drew seven walks.

Cody Runksmeier batted. 414 in league play with 12 hits including four doubles with four RBIs.

Johnson was known more for his play in the field. He batted .103 with three hits including one home run and 11 RBIs.

Deitering batted .409 in league play with nine hits including one double and 15 RBIs. He also drew seven walks.

Adams was known for his play behind the plate. He batted .174 with four hits including one double and four RBIs.

For GTRA, Alesch batted .480 in league play with 12 hits including four doubles, a triple and 11 RBIs. He also drew five walks. On the mound, he posted a 2-1 record. In 20 innings, he gave up seven earned runs with a 2.45 ERA. He struck out 24 with just three walks. Opponents batted .253 against him.

Girres batted .533 in league play with 16 hits including three doubles, a triple and 12 RBIs. Flaharty batted .292 in league play with seven hits and six RBIs. He also drew six walks.

The Titans finished with a 5-3 record in league play.
