By Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer , Estherville News

The Emmet County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved a contract with Spencer Hospital for inpatient services for indigent mental health services.

Dorothy Christensen, county mental health coordinator, requested approval of the contract which has an increase from the daily rate of $524 under the fiscal 2013 contract to $657.38 under the new contract. Christensen, who said there had been no increase since 2007, estimated the county pays for 25 patient days a year. She said no one had been in the unit during the current year.

The board approved the contract as well as $500 in local option sales and service tax dollars for the Staff Sgt. Steven Blass flag memorial.

The board also approved sending a letter of committal for $5,555 for the county's share in the Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund, Inc.

The board also approved the local hazard mitigation plan and utility construction permits for Iowa Lakes Regional Water and Iowa Lakes Electric Coop. Regional Water is putting a service line under 270th Street at 4240 270th St. in Graettinger while ILEC is putting in a new 7200 volt underground service under N26 near the east quarter of Section 28 of Estherville Township.

The board also approved an addendum to a Nov. 21, 2011 agreement with Christensen Farms & Feedlots Inc. of Sleepy Eye, Minn. to add an additional animal waste pipeline crossing under 460th Ave. near the east quarter corner of Section 36 of High Lake Township from the Section 31 Jack Creek Township secondary roads radio tower.

The board also approved the master union contract with secondary roads employees.
