Iowa Lakes Community College students, teachers and staff observed the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in a solemn and moving ceremony Wednesday.
Freshmen students were in first grade when terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington. It was the beginning of America's longest war which still continues in Afghanistan.
The Iowa Lakes Community College chorus and band offered a variety of patriotic selections, including a tribute to the five military branches.
Iowa Lakes student National Guard members were on hand for the presentation of the flags.

Estherville campus dean Scott Stokes read a timeline of the incidents that occurred Sept. 11, 2001, including the attack on the World Trade Center, Pentagon and the downing of United Airlines flight 93 followed by the total suspension of all domestic airline flights in the country - the first time in history.
