Thumbs up, thumbs down

Estherville News

Thumbs up to Estherville Lincoln Central and Armstrong-Ringsted school board members who were sworn in recently. These dedicated individuals serve selflessly and with dedication in a job with no pay and often with long hours. Thank your local school board representatives and tell them how much you appreciate what they do.

Thumbs up to Emmet County Wellness Coalition members who are organizing wellness activities throughout the county. Sometimes it might seem like an uphill battle, but these folks are helping make a difference in the health of people in our area schools, businesses and organizations.

Thumbs up to Kellie Olson on the opening of Fatboys Pub & Grub at the former location of Good Times Bar in Estherville. Kellie has a new menu, so stop in and say hi.

Thumbs up to Mark Hanson on moving to his new location at 2 South Third St. in Estherville. If you're in the market for life insurance or investments, stop and see him.

Thumbs up to the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce on sponsoring the 5K fun run 10 a.m. today.

Thumbs down to federal lawmakers for disrupting the financial markets, commerce and the lives of hundreds of thousands of federal employees due to stubbornness and an unwillingness to come to a consensus on the federal budget.

Thumbs up to the Estherville Lincoln Central High School Band for placing first in Class 2A at the band competition in Fort Dodge on Saturday, Sept. 28. Congratulations to the students and band director Laura Giebler.

Thumbs up for those who helped put on the 2013 Estherville Lincoln Central Homecoming event after the football game. We understand it was a great time for the students.
