Champions in Education fundraiser tonight

October 18, 2013
Estherville News

The 20th annual Champions in Education fundraiser will be held tonight at the Estherville Golf Course, starting at 6:30 p.m.

One feature that's a little different this year is that the Champion in Education will be announced during rather than before the event. Past winners have included exemplars in the field of education.

Money raised from the event goes toward buying items in the classroom not covered by the regular school budget - like Smart boards, iPads and field trips that help enrich the student educational experience.

Tickets are $25 each - which in itself is a bargain considering the wonderful hors d'oeuvre' spread that's offered. If you haven't picked up your tickets yet, they're available at the door.

This is a great and enjoyable way to help benefit our students. This year's theme is a masquerade, and guests are welcome to don a mask or come as they are.

We hope to see you there.

A way to prevent another fiscal cliff?

If the federal government is so concerned about the federal debt, one would wonder why it doesn't encourage one way to reduce the debt - US Savings Bonds.

Savings Bonds are a long-term investment. When Americans buy them, it's Americans who are investing in America - not some foreign country.

Unfortunately, Savings Bonds are no longer available through banks but directly from the Department of Treasury.

If you would like to invest in America - rather than a foreign power - go online to:
