GTRA ends regular season with big win over CWL

CORWITH - Playoff-bound Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire put up 43 points in the first half and then cruised to a 49-20 win over Corwith-Wesley-Luverne in the final game of the regular season on Friday.

The Titans (6-3 overall, 5-2 in district play) are on the road against River Valley for the first-round of Class 8-Man playoffs on Wednesday.

On Friday, the Titans used a big second quarter to put the Panthers away.

In the first quarter, Kyle Dalen scored on a 1-yard run at the 8:50 mark. With 43 seconds left in the period, Michael Girres connected with Jake Wegener on a 39-yard strike as the Titans led 12-0 after 12 minutes of play.

The second-quarter scoring began with 8:06 on the clock when Marcus Girres connected with Wegener on a 1-yard strike. Less than 2 minutes later, Michael Girres ran the ball in from 10 yards out. Michael Girres then completed a 34-yard pass to Dalen with 5:07 left in the half.

He followed it with a 65-yard run with 3:23 remaining. With two seconds on the clock, Mason McGrauth got on the board with a 1-yard run.

With the Titans' second unit playing the second half, The Panthers scored on runs of 10 and 75 yards in the third quarter. Tyler Hoffman then scored on a 27-yard run with 11:545 left to go in the game. CWL added a 39-yard run at the 3:36 mark.

GTRA finished with 285 yards on the ground led by Michael Girres with 104 yards on seven carries. Hoffman finished with 75 yards on 15 carries while McGrauth had 42 on six carries, Dalen had 36 on 11 carries and Marcus Girres had 14 yards on four carries.

Michael Girres was 4-of-5 passing for 73 yards while Marcus was 1-2 for 41 yards. Wegner caught two passes for 80 yards, Dalen had one for 34 and Garret Parker had one catch for 20.

Kyle Long had a fumble recovery while Petersen and Marcus Girres both intercepted passes.

Alex Hoffman had seven tackles while Dalen, Cody Thompson and Matt McGrauth each had four tackles and Tyler Hoffman had three.
