Iowa Lakes' starters did the bulk of the work in Saturday's 81-51 win over Clinton in the Region XI opener for both teams.

The Laker bench was unable to contribute any offense until Emmanuel Golong hit a pair of free throws with 8:01 left in the game that made the score 65-45.

Prior to that point, only the starters had scored.

Center Latrell Love did the bulk of the damage in the first half, scoring eight of the team's first 15 points including 6-of-6 from the free throw line as Iowa Lakes led 15-10.

Iowa Lakes took an 18-10 lead on a 3-pointer by Diamontae McKinley with 12:59 remaining. But the Cougars battled back over the next several minutes, cutting the deficit to 25-24.

Consecutive three-pointers by Tate Harmon and Deondre Parks pushed the Laker lead back to seven. Love then finished up the half strong scoring eight of the final 10 points of the half for the Lakers as they took a 43-29 lead into the break.

Love, Parks and McKinley helped Iowa Lakes continue to pull away through the first part of the second half. A 3-pointer by McKinley gave the Lakers a 57-35 lead at one point. But Clinton was able to go on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 13 with about 10 minutes left to play. Starters Colton Neff and Parks came off the bench to score the next six points while the Cougars only scored six points over the last 8 minutes of play.

Love led all scorers with 25 points while Parks finished with 10 and McKinley had 10. Harmon and Golong both finished with nine points while Neff had six and Jakob Janssen had two points.

Iowa Lakes (3-2 overall, 1-0 in Region XI) host Southeastern Community College tonight.
