HUMBOLDT - Estherville Lincoln Central wrestlers didn't have their best night to start the season in a 57-21 loss to Class 2A No. 6 Humboldt on Thursday.
Yes the Midgets were without one of their top wrestlers-Oscar Ramirez-as well as short one weight.
"I feel like we have the potential to be a better team than 36 points back from the sixth ranked team in the state," said ELC coach Dan Hewitt. "Humboldt has a very strong and very physical group of kids. They have two individuals ranked second and another two ranked in the top 10 in their weight classes. Our kids have to be able to be fast starters, as well as finish each match.
"There were times when our conditioning beat us, and that falls partially on me, and partially on the athlete," the coach continued. "I knew going into the dual that it would be tough to pull out a win, but I felt like we were only going to be one or two matches apart when I looked at the match-ups that were going to happen. We have lots of things to work on, and the boys have had a chance to see that now."
ELC won four of the matches on the night.
