Estherville News

Two people were arrested after a car burglary complaint this week.

According to the police report, on Wednesday at approximately 11:21 a.m., the Estherville Police Department received a complaint of a car burglary that had occurred in the Dollar General parking lot.

Upon arrival it was determined that a female had removed two bags of groceries from the victim's car while it was parked. The female then left the area in a white SUV with a male driver. Upon further investigation, police were able to obtain the license plate on the suspect's vehicle with the help of the victim.

Officers put out an attempt to locate the vehicle that had left the scene. Approximately 15 minutes later, an Emmet County deputy and Armstrong officer located an SUV matching the description of the suspect's vehicle at Casey's in Armstrong. Upon further investigation by Estherville police, it was determined that the two suspects in the vehicle were the individuals responsible for the burglary.

Clifta Laverne Sutton, 54, of Fairmont, Minn., was charged with burglary in the third degree. Also charged during the incident was Anthony Brian McCallister, 44, of Sapula, Okla. Sutton was charged with aiding and abetting burglary in the third degree. Both individuals were booked into the Emmet County Jail, where Sutton is being held on a $2,000 cash bond.

The Estherville Police Department was assisted in this matter by the Emmet County Sheriff's Department and the Armstrong Police Department. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
