Wondering what to do this weekend?
Well why not spend it having an old-fashioned Christmas celebration in Emmet County.
Today from noon to 4 p.m., Christmas on the Farm will be held at the historic Peterson Point farmstead just south of the Emmet County Nature Center east of Wallingford. You'll find sleigh rides, kids games and crafts and all sorts of treats and goodies reminiscent of Christmas past.
In the not so long ago, people would take a sleigh or snowshoe out into the woods and cut a Christmas tree. Or maybe they would spend days in the kitchen, cooking, baking and putting together a Christmas feast.
No electricity, no television, no computers or radio, they would pull a book from the shelf and read to each other. Or they would play the organ or piano or violin - sometimes classical - sometimes hymns - sometimes popular. And everyone would sing along.
These are the times relived yearly at Christmas on the Farm, an annual event that gives visitors old and new an appreciation for what life was like in the 19th century.
We urge everyone to attend this wonderful event that offers an appreciation for life in a slower, gentler time.
To get there, take N40 south from Gruver or A34 east from Wallingford to the "T" just before High Lake and go east past the Nature Center to Peterson Point.
Donations are always welcome as well. Peterson Point is in need of extensive restoration, and any help you could give would be very appreciated.
