ARMSTRONG - North Union started 2014 on a positive note as the Warriors earned a 58-47 victory over Corwith-Wesley-Luverne on Friday.

Jacob Braddock scored 16 points including two baseline drives in the final 1 minutes to help put the pesky Panthers away.

CWL had closed the gap to four with Braddock's drive with 1:26 resulting in a three-point play. That drive came from the right side. On the next North Union possession, Braddock found room from the left baseline, finishing with a layup to put the Warriors up 54-45.

The Panthers had chances to close the gap over the final minute as North Union 4-for-14 from the free throw line over that time span. However, the visitors couldn't come up with the shots, making just two free throws during that span.

North Union's Aric Runge finished with a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Kaleb Olson tossed in 11 points while Colin Runksmeier had eight, Trent Pedersen had five and Corey Vaske and Alex Krantz each had two points. Runksmeier also had four steals.

The Warriors finished 10-of-25 from the free-throw line while CWL was 15-of-20.

Grant Carroll led the Panthers with 15 points, including 7-of-7 from the free throw line while Esden Carroll had 11.

North Union (2-7 overall) is back in action next week at home against West Hancock on Monday while traveling to West Bend on Tuesday. The Warriors will play at the Iowa Lakes gym in Estherville against Spirit Lake next Saturday.
