MAPLE HILL - A house was destroyed by fire east of Maple Hill on Sunday evening. The fire was reported around 5:10 p.m. at the Mike Rezac residence located at 5066 175th St.

Gruver Fire Chief Dan Harvey says when firefighters arrived, flames could be seen coming through the peak of the roof on the south end of the house.

The Armstrong Fire Department was called in to provide mutual aid. Harvey says firefighters fought the blaze until around 8 p.m. but were unable to get it under control. He says the decision was made to pull off and let the fire burn.

Harvey says the house burned down to the foundation.

He says the cause is believed to be electrical in nature.

Firefighters remained on scene till around 10:30 p.m.

Emmet County Emergency Manager Terry Reekers and the Emmet County Sheriff's Office also assisted at the scene.

A fund has been set up to help with housing, food and clothing at Bank Midwest Armstrong/Mary Rezac Fund.
