NU beats CWL, falls to WH

CORWITH, ARMSTRONG - The North Union boys got back in the win column with a 65-40 victory over Corwith-Wesley-Luverne on Tuesday.

The Warriors had a quick turn around, playing their fifth game in seven days as they hosted West Hancock on Thursday. Trailing just 25-20 at halftime, North Union couldn't keep up in the second half as West Hancock pulled away for a 63-38 win.

Against CWL, the host Panthers kept the game close in the first quarter as North Union led just 11-10. But the Warriors stretched the lead to 31-21 by halftime and 48-31 after three quarters.

Aric Runge led North Union with 22 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots.

Jacob Braddock tossed in 10 points while Colin Runksmeier had nine points and four steals. Kaleb Olson had five points, Braden Ortman and Corey Vaske each had four points, Nathan Eaton and Alex Krantz each had three points, Trent Pedersen and Dyson Umscheid had two points and Eythan Blair had one point.

Against West Hancock, the two teams were tied at 11-1 after one quarter before the visitors took a 25-20 halftime lead and then led 39-29 before pulling away in the fourth period. Runge again led the Warriors with 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Ortman had seven points while Braddock had five, Eaton had four, Pedersen, Olson, Krantz and Blair each had two and Colin Runksmeier had one point. Runksmeier also had three assists and Corey Vaske had three steals.

North Union (4-16 overall) was home against West Bend-Mallard on Friday. The Warriors travel to Lake Mills for the final regular season game on Tuesday.

Warriors drop three games

ARMSTRONG - With six games scheduled in an eight-day span, North Union struggled through the first three games of that stretch which started Friday, Jan. 31.

The Warriors lost 71-65 to Harris-Lake Park and then dropped a 68-52 contest to Granada-Huntley-East Chain on Saturday.

On Monday, North Union fell 76-47 to Manson-Northwest Webster.

North Union stayed closed to H-LP last Friday, leading 16-15 after one quarter, but trailing 36-30 at the break. The Warriors could never make up the difference as the second half ended up even at 35-35.

Aric Runge led North Union with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Alex Krantz tossed in 16 points, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Kaleb Olson went 3-of-3 from beyond the arc and finished with 11 points while Trent Pedersen went 3-of-6 from 3-point range had had nine points. As a team, the Mustangs were 12-of-22 from beyond the arc. Colin Runksmeier had eight points and four assists, Jacob Braddock had three points and five assists and Corey Vaske had one point.

Against GHEC, North Union again played a good first quarter, trailing 18-17 after the first 8 minutes. But GHEC pulled away in the second quarter to lead 34-23 at the break and 55-41 after three quarters.

Krantz led the Warriors with 13 points while Runge had 11, Olson and Pedersen each had seven, Runksmeier and Vaske each had six and Braddock had two.

Manson-Northwest Webster jumped out to a 12-7 lead after the first quarter quarter, led 33-26 at halftime and pulled away with a big third quarter to lead 57-35 to start the final frame.

Krantz led the Warriors with 12 points while Nathan Eaton and Braddock each had seven, Braden Ortman had six, Runge and Runksmeier each had four points, Olson had three points and Pedersen and Ryan Larson each had two points.

NU?girls down H-LP, GHEC

ARMSTRONG - The North Union girls extended their winning streak to four games with a 46-40 win over Harris-Lake Park on Friday, Jan. 31 and a 57-40 win over Granada-Huntley-East Chain last Saturday.

Against H-LP, the Warriors led 12-8 after one quarter, but scored just two points in the second quarter as the Wolves led 17-14. North Union retook the lead with a 16-7 third quarter and held on for the victory.

Alexis Valvick and Madison Bollig each finished with 10 points. Valvick was 3-of-4 from 3-point range. Aurora Oliver and Peyton Oleson each finished with nine points. Oliver also had six rebounds and five steals.

Dena Looft chipped in four points, Madison Irmiter had three and Sarah Rolling had one.

Against GHEC, North Union led 12-10 after one quarter, 27-15 at halftime and 44-34 after three quarters. Oliver finished with 16 points, five rebounds and five steals. Valvick tossed in 13 points, Bollig had 12, Sarah Rolling had 11, Irmiter had four and Oleson had two. Valvick also had three assists and three steals.

North Union (10-4) was home against West Bend-Mallard on Friday. The Warriors host Humboldt on Monday and end the regular season at Lake Mills on Tuesday.
