ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Dale D. Moore, 91, of Estherville will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, 1014, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pastor Doug Burton and Pastor David Bergstrom officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery in Estherville.

He died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Dale Delmer Moore was born Feb. 1, 1923 in Hunter, Kan. to Richard Groce and Retta (Schneider) Moore.

Dale attended schools in Hunter, Kan. His father was killed in an auto accident when Dale was two years old. The family moved to Boise, Idaho in 1939. Dale enlisted in the Army in December 1943 and he was taken prisoner of war in Germany during the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged on Dec 5, 1945 and decorated with the American Theater Service ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Service ribbon with three bronze battle stars, Good Conduct Medal and the WW II Victory medal. He farmed with his brother Roscoe in Boise until 1949 when they moved to Falls City, Neb. to farm near there.

On Dec. 31, 1949 he was married to Betty Sunde in Boise, Idaho. They farmed in Nebraska and Kansas until Jan of 1952 when they moved back to Boise, Idaho with their small son Robert Dale. Dale did construction for a time and went back to farming February 1953 until January of 1963 when the family moved to Estherville. He worked for K.S. Lumber, Great Plains Lumber and had his own construction business before retiring because of his health. He was a member of Estherville Lutheran church and VFW. He enjoyed working with wood and watching sports especially, Iowa State on TV and loved spending valuable time with family and friends.

Dale is survived by wife Betty of 64 years. Son- Dan, (friend Sigi) of Wimberley, Texas. Daughter Peggy Danielson, (husband Steve) of Estherville. Daughter-in- law Sandy Moore of Waukee. Four grandchildren Jason (Tasha) Danielson of Adel, James Moore of Des Moines, Jessica (Justin) Nail of Guernsey and Courtney Moore of New Braunfels, Texas. Four great-grandchildren, Breanna, Kara, Mattie and Logan. Special family friend Shirley Fredericksen of Lake Park; former family exchange students Chikako Minei Thunen of Carlsbad, Calif. and Beate Erickson Marten of Norway; sisters-in-law Ruth Sunde of Estherville and Vivian Achenbach of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; and many very special cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dale is preceded in death by son Robert Dale Moore of Waukee; his parents; brothers Roscoe, Verlon and Robert and sister Vera. Brothers-in-law Donald, Wilbur and Hans Sunde and Edward Mick.
