Thumbs up, thumbs down

March 14, 2014
Estherville News

Thumbs up to all the area emergency agencies taking part in the disaster drill as Asmus Farm Supply last Saturday. These dedicated men and women devoted a day off to make sure they're prepared to help us all in the event of an emergency.

Thumbs up to all the great entertainers who performed at CAASA Idol last Saturday at the Estherville VFW. A special congratulations should go to Serena Lynch, winner of the CAASA Idol 2014 trophy, and Mark Howell and Scarlett Rose who were among the top three finalists. A huge thumbs up also has to go to the many sponsors, donors, celebrity servers and guests who attended.

Thumbs up to the Emmet County Board of Supervisors on holding the line as much as possible in pulling together a 2014-15 budget. Like a lot of local governments, they did the best they could with the state tying their hands behind their back with the commercial property tax rollback and beating them over the heads with unfunded state mandates.

Thumbs up to Iowa Lakes Community College students on a great coffee house performance this past Tuesday night at The Max. There's a lot of talent coming out of the college music program, and the coffee house shows it.

Thumbs up to Pizza Hut on a great Business After Five Wednesday night. They put on a great feed - as always.

Thumbs up to Estherville High School music students on a great pops concert Thursday night at Roosevelt Auditorium.

Thumbs up to the Excel Estherville Arts & Culture Committee on bringing Elixer of Love to Roosevelt Auditorium Friday night and the Three Little Pigs for a children's performance Friday afternoon. And who says the arts aren't alive in Estherville?

Thumbs up to the Black Knights Car Club that's hosting the Senders Dance starting at 8 p.m. tonight at the Estherville

Elks Lodge. Come join the fun and dance your feet off!

Thumbs up to the Estherville firefighters who are holding a pancake breakfast to raise funds for their new rescue truck from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. Drop on by and have a great breakfast and contribute to a good cause.
