"If you want to raise money for a good cause in Estherville, just throw a party."
Someone said something very similar to that at a recent fundraiser.
And it couldn't be closer to the truth.
Some very recent examples would be the CAASA Idol fundraiser Saturday, March 8 that entertained a sold-out crowd at the Estherville VFW. Folks had a great time, entertainers had a great time and even the servers had a great time. And it all went for a great cause.
Another great fundraiser (plus a fun event) was a dance with The Senders last Saturday at the Estherville Elks Lodge, sponsored by the Black Knights Car Club. The dance floor filled up right away with folks who enjoyed the classic rock 'n roll of this classic rock group. The Black Knights donates money to worthy causes just about every time they hold a meeting, so you can be assured that the money people spent for the dance will be enjoyed twice - once when they were dancing to the music and again when someone in need gets help.
The firefighters pancake breakfast last Sunday is another excellent example of people having fun and raising money at the same time. The Estherville Fire Department is raising money for a new rescue vehicle that would have multiple uses, whether it would be for fires, car accidents or rescue.
The Friends of Fort Defiance made plans for summer projects at their meeting Tuesday. They would like to invite everyone to the Whitetail Ridge Interpretive Trail dedication 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3 and Fort Defiance Day 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. And, yes, it will be a good time too.
