Goetsch, s-med take first at BVU

STORM LAKE - The Spirit Lake Park boys won two events and finished second in four others at the Buena Vista University High School Elite Meet last Saturday.

The Indians top individual finish came from Tanner Goetsch, who won the 1600-mter run as he finished in 4 minutes, 51.49 seconds.

The sprint medley team of Austin Folsom, Caleb Jennings, Blake Enderson and Josh Waite also won with their finish of 3:52.15 a full 5 seconds ahead of the second-place team and less than four seconds off the meet record.

Three relay teams finished second. The 4x800-meter relay team of Kyle Anderson, Paul Woizeschke, Jeremiah Eldridge finished in 8:45.70. The 4x200-meter relay team of Folsom, Enderson, Jennings and Paul Woizeschke finished in 1:38.64. The 4x400-meter relay team of Jennings, Waite, Pat Woizeschke and Paul Woizeschke finished in 3:41.61.

Also Tyler Jenness took second in the shot put with a throw of 44 feet, 10 inches.

Austin Fagen added a third place finish in the long ump with a leap of 17 feet, 8 inches.

The Indians had three top finishes in the 60-meter hurdles with Pat Woizeschke clocking in at 8.99 seconds for fourth, Jack Kelly in 9.47 for sixth and Fagen in 9.83 for eighth.

Jason Feather took sixth in the 1600-mter run in 5:29.41.

Jennings and Fagen both leapt 5 feet, 6 inches to tie for seventh in the high jump.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Jenness, Waite, Will Hall and Paul Woizeschke finished eighth in 1:42.92.

Indians win five events at BVU meet

STORM?LAKE?- The Spirit Lake Park girls finished first in five events.

The distance medley team of Sierra Gross, Miranda Brueggeman, Emma Dau and Dondi Schmidt won in 4 minutes, 31.56 seconds. Also the 4x80-meter relay team of Mikaela Heikens, Maddie Richter, Lucy O'Hagan and Rebekah Olson won 10:59.60.

Individually, Heikens won the 800-meter run in 2:38.66 while Richter finished fourth in 2:45.96.

Jenna McCoy won the 60-meter hurdles in 10.3 seconds and the high jump with a leap of 5 feet.

The Indians also had two second-place finishes as the 4x400-meter relay team of Schmidt, Carly Hassel, Kiersten Carpenter and McCoy finished in 4:33.85 and McCoy finished second in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 4 inches.

Placing third was Schmidt in the 1500-meter run in 5:14.66, Hassel in the 400-meter dash in 1:08.64, Dau in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, inch and the 4x200-meter relay team of Gross, Brueggeman, Dau and Emily Parks in 1:59.75.

Sundall, Thompson set school records

STORM LAKE - The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire boys faced stiff competition at the Buena Vista High School Elite Meet on Friday, March 21.

"This is a large meet with over 40 schools and we competed mostly against 2A and 3A schools with a few 4A and 1A also competing," said GT/RA coach David Peterson. "I was very happy with our times tonight and we saw some very good potential for later in the season. With our inexperience we did find a few things we need to continue to work on but overall we had a very successful evening and even brought home two new school records."

The Titans set school records in two events as Eric Sundall ran the 1600-meter run in 5 minutes, 29.53 seconds while Cody Thompson threw the shot 39 feet, 10 inches. Those events placed 22nd and 21st respectively.

The team's best performance came in the medley relay as the team of Kyle Dalen, Marcus Girres, Michael Girres and Sundall finished in 4:19.98.

Marcus Girres placed 15th in the 400-meter dash in 59.04 seconds and Michael Girres placed 22nd in the 60-meter dash in 7.74 seconds.

The Titans begin the outdoor season on Friday, April 11 at a meet hosted by Clay Central-Everly in Spencer.

SLP?4x400 wins at Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Spirit Lake Park boys 4x400-meter relay team paced the Indians at the Dan Lennon B High School Track and Field Meet at the University of South Dakota Dakota Dome on Tuesday.

The quartet of Caleb Jennings, Josh Waite, Blake Enderson and Pat Woizeschke.

The Indians also had a runner-up finish from Tanner Goetsch in the 3200-mter run. His time of 10:32.55 was just two hundreds away from Sioux Falls freshman Caleb DeWeerd's winning time.

Goetsch also placed fourth in the 1600-meter run as he finished in 4:55.28 while Ryan Maris placed eighth in 11:07.79.

Also fourth was Jacob Jenness in the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 2 inches.

The Indians' depth showed in the sprint medley as they had teams place fifth and sixth. The foursome of Jennings, Tyler Jenness, Enderson and Waite finished in 3:53.34 while Austin Fagen, Zach Renken, Paul Woizeschke and Kyle Anderson finished in 3:58.10.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Pat Woizeschke placed sixth in 9.26 seconds and Jack Kelly placed eight in 9:58.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Folsom, Enderson, Jennings and Pat Woizeschke finished in 1:40.72.

Fagen took eighth in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 4 inches and Paul Woizeschke finished in eighth in the 800-meter run in 2:14.95.

SLP sprint medley takes second at SF

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Spirit Lake Park girls sprint medley had the best finish at the Dan Lennon B High School Track and Field Meet at the University of South Dakota Dakota Dome on Tuesday.

The quartet of Sierra Gross, Miranda Brueggeman, Emma Dau and Dondi Schmidt finished second in the event in 4 minutes, 35.67 seconds.

Schmidt added a third-place finish in the 1600-meter run in 5:44.56 and fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:33.14. Jenna McCoy took third in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 7 inches. She also placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.95 seconds.

Also Mikaela Heikens placed seventh in the 800-mter run in 2:38.28.
