The weather is starting to feel more like spring finally! With the turn of the calendar to April many are starting to think about gardening. Emmet County Extension and Outreach is partnering with the Estherville Public Library to offer a "Growing Your Garden" program on April 17 from 6 to 8 pm at the Estherville Public Library. At this program, Margaret Murphy Iowa State University Extension and Horticulture Educator will be sharing how to grow your own produce, what to consider when planting a garden, and tips to have a bountiful harvest. This program is free to all attendees who will also have the opportunity to start seedlings that can later be transplanted in their garden. This program will be held at the Estherville Public Library Community Room from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, April 17. Please call the Emmet County Extension Office at (712) 362-3434 to reserve your seat for this program by April 14.
For any interested in learning about best practices and guidelines for food handling, sampling, and processing for Farmer's Markets, James Romer, Compliance Officer for Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals will be speaking on April 22 at 1 pm at the Emmet County Nature Center. Fee for this program is $15 which is used to offset program expenses. The deadline to register is April 17. Call (712) 362-3434 to register.
