STORM LAKE - The Iowa Lakes Men's Golf Team played in the Buena Vista University Men's Golf Tournament this past weekend on Friday and Saturday.
After round 1, the Laker men were leading the tournament. Fighting windy conditions the Lakers shot a first round 318.They were led by freshman Jordan Sogard with a 78, Austin Sweeney and Harley Snelson each shot a 79. Blake Orton came in with an 82 to round up the scoring. Non-counting score was Joe Dakken with an 89. Nathan Kyle was playing as an individual and shot a 90.
On day two, the conditions didn't get any better with wind gusts of 35-40 mph. The Lakers came in with a total of 326. Sogard led the way with a 79. Snelson came in with an 81 while Dakken shot an 82. Orton fired an 84 to round out the scoring. Non-counting score was Sweeney's 89. Kyle playing as an individual came in with an 84. The Lakers shot a two-day total of 644 to finish in second place. They were edged out by Kirkwood who came in with a two-day total of 643. Individually Sogard finished in second place, while Snelson finished in fifth place.
"The guys fought hard in the conditions," said Iowa Lakes coach Andy Soper. "One thing players have to remember is everyone is playing in the same conditions, as well as to never get ahead of themselves and always stay in the present and take it one shot at a time."
