HARTLEY - The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Girls Golf Team saw its season come to an end with a fourth place finish at the regional final held Tuesday in Hartley.
The top team teams advanced to state with Bishop Garrigan shooting a 398 while Akron-Westfield shot a 401. Rockford finished third with 417 followed by GT/Ra with 422, River Valley with 439 and Harris-Lake Park with 520.
"We came up just a bit short for the second year in a row at the regional finals," said GT/RA coach John Fulton. "We actually shot a 19 strokes better on the second nine than we did on the first so if we could have played up to our potential all 18 holes it would have been close. Sara Harris was also two strokes away from making it on to state, and as a sophomore I know that she will want to improve the next two years. The girls put in a lot of work this year over last summer and I know that they were looking for a better result, but I am really proud of the way they worked. I want to thank our two seniors, Kelley Harris and Caroline Koekenhoff, for their leadership and their great attitudes this year. They will be missed."
Sara Harris finished her round with a 101 while Kelley Harris and Lauren Flaharty each shot 105. Destiny Akridge completed the team score with a 111. Non-counting scores were a 117 by Carrie Hoffman and a 122 by Caroline Koekenhoff.
