NU unable to rally against Bulldogs

BANCROFT - North Union suffered its third straight loss as Lake Mills defeated the Warriors 12-8 on Monday. The visiting Bulldogs led by as many as 12-4 before the Warriors scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. But Lake Mills shut down North Union in the seventh.

Cody Runksmeier pitched 3 1/3 innings in taking the loss. He gave up nine earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and four walks. Parker Oleson closed out the game and gave up three earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts and three walks.

Both teams had 11 hits. Colin Runksmeier led the Warriors as he went 3-5 with an RBI. Corey Vaske was 2-4 with two RBI while Cody Runksmeier was 2-5. Spencer Ricke was 1-1, Oleson was 1-2 with an RBI, Spencer Ricke was 1-1 and Braden Ortman was 1-3.

Warriors struggle at Spencer

SPENCER - North Union fell to 2-3 on the season with a pair of losses at the Spencer Tournament last Saturday.

The Warriors lost 4-2 to Sioux City West and 11-2 to Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley.

Against Sioux City West, both teams scored two runs in the third inning, but West scored the game's only other two runs in bottom of the fourth.

Corey Vaske took the loss as he pitched all six innings and gave up four earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts and five walks. West's Taylor Nevrotn struck out 12 and walked one while giving up four hits in the win.

Ryan Larson was 2-2 for the Warriors while Colin Runksmeier was 1-4 and Spencer Ricke was 1-3 with an RBI.

Alex Krantz took the loss for North Union against BH/RV. Krantz went 6 2/3 innings and gave up 11 runs (10 earned) on 16 hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Parker Oleson struck out one and walked one in a third of an inning.

North Union finished with seven hits with Krantz going 2-4 with an RBI. Colin Runksmeier, Vaske, Ricke, Logan Hellman and Braden Ortman each had one hit.

NU handles Spirit Lake

SPIRIT LAKE - North Union had a good night against Spirit Lake in a 12-1, six-inning victory over the Indians on Friday, May 31.

Colin Runksmeier went the distance for the Warriors as he gave up one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Meanwhile North Union came up with eight hits with Colin Runksmeier helping his own cause by going 3-5 with four RBIs. Cody Runksmeier finished 2-2 with three RBIs while Corey Vaske, Trent Pedersen and Braden Ortman each had a hit. Carter Engelby came up with two RBIs while Spencer Ricke, Logan Hellman and Ortman each had one.

For the Indians, Gavin Cramer went 3 2/3 innings, giving up 11 runs (10 earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and nine walks. Jeremiah Eldridge went 2 1/3 innings and gave up one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts and four walks.

At the plate, giving DeVos was 2-3 while Cole Thate and Keaton Leach each went 1-3 and Jeremiah Eldridge was 1-2.
