BANCROFT - Trailing 5-2 after 4 1/2 innings, North Union rallied with three runs each in the next two innings while holding Pocahontas scoreless to earn an 8-5 victory on Tuesday.
The rally started in the bottom of the fifth inning as Logan Hellman led off with a single. Two outs later, Ryan Larson was hit by a pitch. A single by Cody Runksmeier brought in one run and a triple by Colin Runksmeier tied the game with a two-RBI triple.
In the sixth inning, Corey Vaske scored the go-ahead run as he led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Trent Pedersen and scored on a wild pitch. The Warriors added two insurance runs. Hellman then drew a walk followed by two-out singles from Braden Ortman and Ryan Larson with Larson getting the RBI. Another single by Cody Runksmeier drove in Ortman.
Colin Runksmeier earned the win in two innings of relief as he struck out three batters and gave up one hit. Starter Alex Krantz went five innings and give up five runs (three earned) on five hits with two strikeouts.
The Warriors finished with nine hits with Cody Runksmeier going 3-3 with two RBIs while Ortman was 2-3. Colin Runksmeier was 1-4 with two RBIs while Hellman and Larson each were 1-2 and Vaske was 1-3 with an RBI.
