ALGONA - Having split a doubleheader with West Bend-Mallard less than a week before, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire didn't have its best game against the Wolverines on Monday.
In a first-round Class 1A Region 1 game on Monday, the Wolverines jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first and scored in each inning on the way to a 15-3, five-inning victory.
Meanwhile, the Titans wrap up their first season under head coach Jana Beisell with a 7-17 record.
GT/RA put up one run in the bottom of the first as Maddy Norris hit a one-out single, went to second on a wild pitch and to third when Daisy Jordan struck out and the catcher dropped the ball. Cleanup batter Sara Harris then hit a hard grounder between the legs of the West Bend-Mallard third baseman to score Norris.
The Wolverines got back that run in the top of the inning, with a Titan error and three singles.
GT/RA came back with another as Lauren Flaharty led off the inning with a hard single to left field that got away from the fielder. She went to third on the play. Two batters later, Flaharty scored on a double by Alana Rhem.
The top of the third proved to be the Titan's downfall as the Wolverines took advantage of a leadoff error, along with two walks and two singles to score four runs and lead 8-2.
The Wolverines kept up the pressure with five runs in the fourth including a three-run home run by Harrison Schmidt to cap the inning.
For the Titans, Flaharty led off the bottom of the inning with a triple and scored on a passed ball, but that was all the Titans could get. The Wolverines added two runs in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, Norris drew a walk and Daisy Jordan singled. With an error, the runners moved to second and third. But a pop up, strikeout and groundout for the next three batters ended the contest.
Norris finished 1-1 while Jordan and Flaharty each went 2-3 and Rhem was 1-2 with an RBI.
Taylor Park took the loss for the Titans. She struck out one batter.
GT/Ra loses two seniors to graduation-first baseman Alex Oleson and shortstop Brooke Hoffman.
