Spirit Lake wins Lakes Conference

Indians end year with 13-1 league record

EMMETSBURG - Spirit Lake wrapped up the 2014 Lakes Conference title with a 9-5 victory over Emmetsburg on Monday.

The win gives the Indians a 13-1 record in the league and avenges the team's lone league loss. The E'Hawks rallied for a 6-5, eight-inning victory on June 18.

On Monday, the Indians took command with a four-run second inning to lead 6-2 and then added three runs in the fourth to lead 9-3. The E'Hawks scratched across one run in the bottom of the fourth and another in the sixth.

Bailee Newman pitched five innings in the win and gave up four earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Kailee Jenness pitched two innings and gave up one earned run on two hits with one strikeout and no walks.

The Indians pounded out 10 hits with Mackenzie Thate going 3-4 with a home run, a double and six RBIs. Caitlyn Roberts was 2-4 and Whitlee Reitz was 2-4 with an RBI.

Maddie Richter was 1-3 and Carly Ites was 1-4 with two RBIs. Also Jenness was 1-1.
