SPIRIT LAKE - The Spirit Lake baseball team recorded its fifth and sixth straight wins with a 10-4 victory over Emmetsburg on Monday and a 23-5 win over Sibley-Ocheyedan on Thursday.
On Monday, the Indians led 4-3 when they put together six runs in the top of the sixth inning. Emmetsburg could just muster one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Tony Eckert earned the win as he pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up four runs (one earned) on eight hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. Cole Thate closed out the game with no hits, strikeouts or walks.
The Indians had 11 hits with Thate going 3-4 with a double and two RBIs. Keaton Leach was 3-4 while Gavin DeVos was 2-5 with a double and three RBIs.
On Thursday, the Indians led 12-1 when they erupted for 11 runs in the top of the fifth. Logan Backhaus pitched a no-hitter as he struck out seen and walked two. All four of the Generals' runs came unearned in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Indians had 13 hits with Gavin Kramer going 3-3 with two RBIs. DeVos was 2-4 with a double and two RBIs while Eckert was 2-4 with a double and three RBIs.
The Indians were at Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley on Friday. They then travel to Sioux City to face Bishop Heelan on Monday and to Orange City to face MOC-Floyd Valley on Wednesday.
Spirit Lake (14-6) begins tournament play in Orange City with a 7 p.m. game against MOC-Floyd Valley on Friday. The winner returns to Orange City to face either Bishop Heelan or Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley.
