Three men face drug charges

The Estherville Police Department has arrested three suspects in connection with ongoing illegal drug activity that has been taking place over the past two weeks.

On Sept. 29, Estherville police received information of ongoing illegal drug activity that was occurring at a garage located at 714 S. 10th St. in Estherville. Based upon information received as part of an ongoing investigation from members of the Iowa Great Lakes Drug Task Force, police were able to obtain a search warrant for the garage.

At approximately 2 a.m., police executed a search warrant and located methamphetamine and marijuana. They then arrested 32-year-old Adam Christophel of Estherville on charges of possession of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver, a Class B Felony, possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver and with a drug tax stamp violation, both Class D felonies. He was transported to the Emmet County Jail and, after appearance before the magistrate, is being held on a $40,000 cash only bond. The Iowa Department of Narcotics Enforcement assisted Estherville police.

On Sunday at approximately 2:20 a.m., Estherville police observed a vehicle driving without headlights on in the 1700 block of First Avenue North. A traffic stop was initiated and upon approaching the vehicle, officers could smell an odor consistent with marijuana coming from the passenger compartment. Police also observed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

Estherville Police K-9 Max was used to conduct a perimeter search of the vehicle and confirmed the odor of marijuana. Police obtained several items of drug paraphernalia as well as marijuana. The driver, 19-year-old Jesse Colhour of Estherville, Colhour was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Colhour was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.

As part of the ongoing investigation, police also arrested 24-year-old Cody Brown of Estherville on Thursday. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He remains in the Emmet County Jail on $1,300 cash bond or surety.
