Estherville News

Estherville Lincoln Central officials issued a message to parents late Wednesday afternoon that a high school student had made an unspecified threat against the school.

ELC Superintendent Tara Paul said that through the investigative efforts and school protocols of the Estherville Police Department and school administration, this threat is believed to be mitigated.

Estherville Police Chief Brent Shatto said the juvenile male that made the threat has been identified and dealt with by police and was released into the custody of his parents.

As a precaution, extra security will be provided at the schools over the next several days. All exterior doors in all buildings will be locked during the school day. Shatto said extra officers will be onsite during school hours and there will be increased surveillance..

Recess, before and during school, will be inside at Demoney Elementary and the middle school.
