SPENCER - The Estherville Lincoln Central boys finished fifth out of 13 teams at the Spencer Golf Invitational on Monday.
Webster City won with a 309 followed by Clear Lake 311, Spencer 315, Harlan 325, ELC 326, Bishop Garrigan 329, Carroll 336, Humboldt 351, Algona 364, Spencer Gold 367, Denison 372, LeMars 385, Cherokee 400.
ELC's Jacob Bosch won a thrilling three-man two-hole sudden death playoff after his round of 74 to claim Invitational medalist honors.
Rounding out ELC's team score were Trey Jacobson with a 78, Hunter Wheatley with a 79 and Collin Wodtke with a 95. Not counting scores were Blake Miller with 101 and Izaak Sander with 116.
"Tremendous accomplishment by Jacob to be the invitational medalist in this type of field, and was a perfect example of what grinding out a round looks like," said ELC coach Dave Van Roekel. "Trey and Hunter also had outstanding rounds of golf. Collin got off to a rocky start, but continued to battle throughout the day.
"Blake and Izaak would have liked to have had better rounds, but with their continued hard work, their days will come too," the coach continued. "I am really proud of all these guys, they continue to work hard on their games and it's beginning to pay dividends. It's not been an easy start for this team, everything seems to be coming a little harder than we thought it would, but today we definitely saw what can be if we continue to improve even just a little each week. It's a joy to be around young men that have a love for the game and a dedication to improve their games!"
ELC travels to Brooks Golf Course in Okoboji this Saturday for the Iowa Great Lakes Invitational.
