Dawn Eveleth was just as surprised as anyone would be when she learned she had won $10,000 from the Estherville Hy-Vee.
"I didn't believe it. I started getting pings on my phone," Eveleth said.
She first called her cousin Mary and asked her what she should do.
However, moments later, Hy-Vee Store Manager Darin Kriech called her with the news that she had won the store's promotion. From Jan.9 through April 3, each time a Hy-Vee shopper swiped their Fuel Saver Plus Perks Card, they were entered into the drawing for the grand prize.
Eveleth said she has had several suggestions from family members of what to do with the money.
"I'm raising three of my grandchildren," she said. "My sister said I've got to spend something on myself. Hopefully I'll come up with something."
"I am going to give a donation to my church, St. Patrick's to the Neighbor fund, because that fund always needs some money, in memory of my mom Virginia and my mother-in-law Marjorie," Eveleth said.
Kriech said it's a lot of fun to give $10,000 away.
"It's a nice way to say thank for somebody being a loyal customer. She used her Fuel Saver Plus card as an opportunity to swipe that thing and get a chance to win," Kriech said. "We appreciate all our customers that come here at shop with us at it's a nice way to say thanks."
