Estherville News

Evelyn (Evy) Hazel Egeland Fitzgerald was born on Aug. 28, 1928, and left us on Sept. 8. 2017. Evy was born in Wallingford, Iowa, and lived out her days in Sun Lakes, Ariz. She spent over 25 years building her career at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and retired in 1983, when she then moved to Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Egeland and Susanna Herke Egeland, her son, Jeffrey L. Nichols, and two husbands, John W. Nichols, and James V. Fitzgerald. She is survived by her husband Roy Stinson, her three daughters, Debra Ryder, Terri Skluzacek and Linda Jeffreys, as well as 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Evy was very proud of her accomplishments with the Telephone Pioneers of America, and was a recipient of their esteemed District Angus Award for her countless hours of volunteer service. She was also involved with the Beta Sigma Phi and the VFW Auxiliary Club.

Evy filled her days by surrounding herself with family and friends, playing bells in the church choir, reading, cooking and baking, sewing and crocheting, traveling , and even spent a few fun days in her favorite casinos! She instilled in the generations that followed some family recipes and taught them all how to make potato cakes, kringla and peanut butter balls, just to name a few favorites!

Memorial donations should be directed to the Salvation Army in her memory.

We will have a Celebration of Life in the Sun Lakes area in the near future.
