SPENCER - In preparation for Tuesday's Lakes Conference Meet, Taylor Myers has been working on his kick at the end of the race.

That hard work paid off, as the Estherville Lincoln Central sophomore raced by Spirit Lake's Aidan Bauermeister in the final stretch of the race to earn the individual crown in 17 minutes, 4 .92 seconds. Bauermeiester finished nearly 5 seconds behind in 17:09.08.

"About a mile and a half in, I got into second place and with about 800 yards to go, I started to kick it," said Myers.

"Taylor really put himself in a position to pick people off during the race," said ELC coach Connie Humble. "He is peaking at the right time."

Myers, who is ranked 23rd in Class 2A, has more goals for the rest of the season.

"I'm looking for a top 10 finish at the district meet and top 30 for state," he said. Myers finished 43rd in Class 2A a year ago.

Overall, ELC placed sixth out of the seven teams, as Emmetsburg left the Lakes Conference this season.

Riley Theesfeld was the second ELC runner to cross the finish line, placing 38th in 20:15.84 while Jacob Jensen placed 39th in 20:34.11, Marcus Smith placed 42nd in 21:53.89 and Lincoln Coakley placed 44th in 22:48.60 to complete ELC's team score of 164.

Also, Jason Peta placed 46th in 23:20.38 and Chaz Berge placed 47th in 24:36.64.

ELC travels to Unity Christian next Thursday, Oct. 19, for the Class 2A district meet. The Top 10 runners will qualify for state.
