Joy and work

October 18, 2017
Amy H. Peterson - Staff Writer ( , Estherville News

I'm still looking for help with a project.

It's the whiteboard project. We didn't make it into the August issue of Our Hometown, so we're shooting for the Labor Day edition of the Estherville News.

As you can see in the photo of the resplendent Rowaida Lair, we're seeking your thoughts on our big questions.

Rowaida was one of the first four to answer the question, "What brings you joy?"?

I love her answer:?"Making my family happy."?

If you'd like to share what brings you joy, we will gather up all the responses and make the pictures look really great in the paper and on social media. Call me at the office 712-362-2622 (but I'm often not here) or on my cell phone 712-330-2593 (but don't give it out -- I don't want everyone calling me at all hours) or email me or get me on Facebook or Instagram at E'ville Amy. So for the next ten days of August, I?will be out and about with my mini-whiteboard and markers and asking you, "What brings you joy?"?

This is so much fun, we already have a second project in the hopper:?"What does your work mean to you?"?This is a theme for Labor Day, and whether you're in school, retired, keeping a home, out in the field, in an office, on a rig, or making something that wasn't there before, I want to meet up with you so you can tell me about what you do and write a few words on the mini-white board for our feature.

We're trying to mix things up and have a little more fun already at the Estherville News. We are getting our fill of hard news to dig through so we can report the essence of it (and let's face it; I'm the one doing it, I'm kind of a data nerd, and I do like it when it's not tearing a community apart), and for balance, we need our readers' and subscribers' help to make it fun.

Eventually,?I'd like to get everyone. Yes, you, too, sharing your thoughts in our paper.

Where did this idea come from??I?know I saw it online from a newspaper in Missouri and it had other elements, and was really great.

I would show you, but I?can't find it!?Let's do it anyway, and even better.
