The 19th Annual Run for the Cob was a little wet, but the runners persevered and finished their respective races Saturday morning.

Vic Morales, 44, of Johnston won the 10K race. Morales is a 1992 graduate of Estherville High School.

"I love coming back to this race, it's a special one," said Morales. "It's good to see coach (Dick Barrett) and the runners of all ages still running and some that are coming through the high school."

Last year, Morales won the 5K race at the Run for the Cob by edging out a Spirit Lake High School runner. He enjoys running various events in Central Iowa.

"Central Iowa has a race about every weekend, so I used to try get in some of the smaller ones, but also some bigger ones where there's a lot of competitive masters runners and above," Morales said. "I think it's a way for me to keep active and keep moving..

Morales said he loves the Drake Relays Half Marathon, the Des Moines half marathon.

"This was the last year of the Day of the Dam 20K-it's going to be called something else-but I used to love doing that every year," he said.

Morales said he's complete four marathons, but that isn't for him.

"It's not my cup of tea. I prefer half marathons," he said. "But I have qualified for the Boston Marathon."

Morales, who finished Saturday's 10K in 36 minutes, 22 seconds, said his fastest 10K time.

"That was in Des Moines and I believe it was a course record," he said.

Darrian Kuker, 17, of Fairmont, Minn., finished second in 42:22.4 while John Maloney of Tarpley, finished third in 44:42.2.

Holly Neusch, 48, of Fairmont, was the first female to finish the 10K. She finished fourth overall in 45:27.2.

Meanwhile, Tim Harder, 32, of Somerville won the 5K race in 16 minutes, 46.9 seconds.

Estherville Lincoln Central junior Taylor Myers finished solidly in second in 17:35.4, with Kolton Larson of Sherburn, Minn., taking third in 18:25.

Ella Wolf, 14 of Fort Collins, finished sixth overall in 21:48.2 and was the first female to finish the race.

2007 Estherville Lincoln Central graduate Laura (Menendez) Thein also returned to town for the 5K race. Thein said she has competed in the Run for the Cob nearly every year since graduating. While she has competed in the 10K, the new mother of a 7-month-old ran the 5K this year and finished 25th out of 57 runners in 27:10.7.

Complete results of the 5K and 10K races are below. The Run for the Cob also includes a 1-mile fun run.
