Except for the first basket by Spencer, Estherville Lincoln Central led from start to finish in a 65-31 win over the Tigers on Friday.

While ELC struggled to make shots at times during the first quarter, the Midgets still led 14-6 after one quarter and 32-17 at the break. Stifling defense proved the key to keeping the Tigers at bay.

"in the second half, we changed things up and picked them out defensively at half court," said ELC coach Don Martindale. "Other than a couple transition layups, we played a much better second half."

The third quarter is when ELC put the Tigers away with a 17-4 period to take a 49-21 lead into the final stanza. ELC continued to push the lead and a 3-pointer by Brianne Vermeys gave ELC a 35-point lead to start the running clock for the final 3:35 of the game.

ELC had scoring from everywhere with 10 players with points in the scorebook.

Josie Condon led the way with 18 points while Jaydan Nitchals tossed in 10. Kendal Evans and Vermeys each finished with eight points, Lindsey Jensen and Kaitlyn Tendal each had six, Jadynn Moore and Sydney Swanson each had three points, Amara Heinrichs had two and Adrienne Rosfjord had one.

ELC (8-4 overall) plays back-to-back games this week, with Class 1A No. 1 Newell-Fonda coming to Estherville followed by a road game at Storm Lake on Friday.
