Emmet County and Farmers Union Industries, the parent company of the Central Bi-Products rendering plant, reached a settlement Tuesday morning on the lawsuit filed by the county Oct. 1, 2018. Among the terms of the settlement, Farmers Union Industries will pay in full the $4,750 in damages sought by the county and implement a protocol for handling any odor complaints that arise by use of a DT (dilution to threshold) meter. County supervisor Roger Hash demonstrated the Nasal Ranger device to take odor measurements with the Scentometer unit. See more details in Thursday's edition of the Estherville News.
