Warriors end week with 1-2 record

FOREST CITY - North Union came up on the short end of a 9-8 loss to Forest City on Friday. The Warriors led 8-2 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, when the hosts scored seven runs. Neither team scored the final three innings.

Emily Meyer took the loss, giving up eight runs (six earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks in 3 /23 innings of work. Cassie Beadle pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Olivia Von Bank gave up an unearned run and walked three batters.

The Warriors finished with 14 hits with Maddie Rolling going 3-3 with a double and three RBI while Olivia Von Bank was 3-5. Shawna Person was 2-3 with an RBI and Kaylee Tirevold was 1-3 with a double and two RBIs. Hope Steinberger was 2-5 with a double, Beadle was 1-5, Vanessa Von Bank was 1-4 and Meyer was 1-2.

North Union (12-16 overall, 8-8 in the Top of Iowa West Conference) travels to Terril today to play Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire. The Warriors host Northwood-Kensett on Tuesday in Swea City.

FORT DODGE - North Union couldn't get the bats going and the defense struggled in a 12-0, four-inning loss to St. Edmond of Fort Dodge on Thursday.

Emily Meyer started on the mound and lasted 1 2/3 innings, giving up nine runs, but just three earned runs, on nine hits with no strikeouts and one walk. Shawna Person closed out the game, giving up three earned runs on eight hits.

The Warriors had just five hits with Hope Steinberger going 2-2 while Kaylee Tirevold was 1-1 and Person and Vanessa Von Bank each went 1-2.

SWEA CITY - North Union came up with the hits when needed in a 6-3 victory over Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Wednesday.

The Warriors had 13 hits on the night, led by Cassie Beadle, who went 4-4 with three runs and an RBI. Olivia Von Bank and Vanessa Von Bank each went 2-4 while Maddie Rolling, Shantel Engeman, Shawna Person, Emily Meyer and Maggie Engleby each had a hit. Person had two RBIs while Olivia Von Bank and Kaylee Tirevold each had one.

Person started on the mound and gave up two earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Meyer closed out the game, giving up one unearned run with five strikeouts and two walks.
