A long-time Estherville Lincoln Central teacher will be the new elementary principal at the school.

At a special board meeting Monday, the ELC School Board approved the recommendation to hire Connie Humble to the administrative position.

The principal position opened in June when then-principal Shane Kalous took the open activities director/dean of students position vacated by Scott Stokes.

ELC Superintendent Tara Paul said three candidates were interviewed for the elementary principal position.

"We're super excited to have Connie join us," said Paul. "Connie comes with a lot of energy. She bleeds red and black for our district. She raised six kids here and has a strong belief in our school system."

At this time, Paul said Humble plans to continue her head cross country coaching duties this fall.

Other personnel changes approved Monday, the board approved Jenny Nitchals as varsity assistant volleyball coach and Matt Gruhlke as middle school boys track coach. Also approved was the resignation of elementary teacher associate Justyna Eberle.

In other business Monday, the board approved an HVAC project for the high school, which will provide air conditioning for the gym.

Graves Construction of Spencer submitted the low bid of $378, 432.74, which came in under the expected cost of $500,000 to $600,000, said Paul.

Paul said the project will start July 29 and the gym is expected to be completed by Oct. 4. The project is part of a plan to provide air conditioning for the entire high school-the only building in the district that is without.

"We hope it will also benefit the cafeteria," said Paul.

Funding for the project will come from the PPEL (Physical Plant and Equipment Levy) funds. Paul said the school district had set aside $250,000 for the project in last year's budget and this year's budget.
