RUTHVEN - Class 3A No. 10 Estherville Lincoln Central battled a pesky Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire team on Tuesday before the Midgets hung on for a 7-5 victory over the Titans.

The game was a replacement game for both teams, as their scheduled opponents-St. Mary's, Storm Lake and Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn-both had to make up games in their respective conferences.

ELC struck first, as Ryan Schiltz hit a leadoff single, stole second, went to third when Alec Heifner grounded out, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Blake Miller.

The Titans came back in the bottom of the inning. Kadin Norris reached on an error and Lucas Hoffman singled. Jace Naig hit into a fielder's choice, as ELC got the lead runner for the first out. However consecutive singles by Carter Koenck and Jon Gerdes gave the Titans a 2-1 lead.

ELC went to work in the fourth inning, as Schiltz led off with a double and went to third on a wild pitch. However, the Titans got the second out when Schiltz tried to go home on a grounder by Briar Rowley to the shortstop.

ELC kept working though, as Rowley stole second and scored on a single by Miller. After a single by Busch, the runners moved to second and third on a wild pitch and both scored on a double to left-center field by Seth Vaske, as ELC led 4-2.

ELC added two more runs in the fourth. Blake Ingvall, Schiltz and Heifner all drew walks to load the bases with a single by Rowley brining in the first run. With one out, Busch hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Schiltz. A poor relay by the Titans allowed Heifner to come home on the play and ELC led 7-2.

The Titans got one run back in the sixth on a solo home run by Treyton Cacek.

The rally fell short in the seventh inning. The Titans loaded the bases and got a two-RBI single by Jon Gerdes. However Brian Egeland, in relief of starter Izaak Sander, recorded a strikeout and popup to end the game.

Sander pitched five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) with eight strikeouts and three walks. Egeland pitched two innings and gave up three earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

At the plate, Vaske finished 3-4 with two RBIs while Miller and Busch each were 1-4 with two RBIs. Schiltz was 2-3 and Rowley was 1-3 with an RBI and Keegan Brown was 1-3.

For the Titans, Hoffman pitched three innings in the loss, giving up four earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Gerdes pitched three innings and gave up three earned runs with no hits, two strikeouts and five walks. Carter Koenck pitched one inning and gave up one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.

At the plate, Hoffman, Gerdes and Cacek all went 2-4 with two RBIs by Gerdes and one by Cacek. Naig, Koenck and Max Hough each had a hit.

ELC (24-2 overall) was on the road Wednesday against Harris-Lake Park. The Midgets are on the road against Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Tuesday.

GT/RA (4-13 overall) is on the road against North Iowa on Friday.

On Monday, ELC defeated Newell-Fonda 10-1. Briar Rowley pitched a complete game giving up one earned run on two hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.

ELC's big inning was the fourth, as the Midgets plated six runs on just three hits, as the Mustangs had two errors in the inning and gave up three walks. Keegan Brown and Blake Miller each had a two-RBI double and Rowley brought home two runs when he reached on a dropped ball in left field.

ELC scored three runs on no hits in the fifth inning, taking advantage of three walks and more Mustang miscues. At the plate for ELC, Seth Busch was 2-3 with an RBI, Keegan Brown was 1-3 with two RBI, Miller was 1-4 with two RBI, Seth Vaske was 1-4 and Rowley had three RBIs.

In junior varsity play Tuesday, ELC defeated Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire 12-2 in three innings. Griffin Hoyer earned the win, giving up two earned runs on one hit with five strikeouts and four walks. Blake Ingvall struck out one batter and walked one. ELC had 12 hits with Carter Snyder going 3-3 with two RBIs while Alex Jensen was 2-2 with three RBIs and Daryl Jensen and Grant Love each were 2-2 with an RBI.
