CSS announces Estherville meeting

Mental Health region’s geography in question

July 7, 2019
Amy H. Peterson - Staff Writer (apeterson@esthervillenews.net) , Estherville News

At Tuesday morning's Emmet County supervisors meeting, supervisor John Pluth reported on a meeting of County Social Services he attended recently in New Hampton. County Social Services (CSS) is the mental health region that includes Emmet County. Mental health regions were set up under state legislation that directed the revamping of Iowa's mental health system.

Pluth said Kossuth and Winnebago counties are trying to leave the CSS region. This would leave Emmet County a non-contiguous county, contrary to the rules of the mental health region system. CSS is holding its next meeting at Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative in Estherville at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 24. Pluth said the meeting is open to the public.

In other business, the supervisors approved 2019 drainage assessments with the exception of joint drainage district EK4 which will require more research.

Amy M. Sathoff, county auditor, presented the fiscal year 2020 appropriation. The supervisors approved a half-year of appropriations in the amount of $5,499,403.00.

The supervisors also approved three fireworks permits for the week of July 4: Nancy Danielson of Wallingford, and Greg Hecht and Samantha and Taylor Linn, all of Estherville.

The next supervisor meeting is 9 a.m., Tuesday, July 9 in the board room at the courthouse
