Jewell Faye Hall Strube

Jewell Faye Hall Strube went to her heavenly home on June 4th, 2019 at the age of 91. She was surrounded by her daughters during this passage.

Jewell was born to Fred and Maggie Hall on November 23, 1927 in a log cabin located in the Turtle Mountains of North Dakota. When she was 9 years old, the family moved to Northwest Iowa near the town of Estherville. The family farmed while Jewell completed her education, graduating from Center Township High School in 1946.

On April 20, 1949, Jewell was united in marriage to Donald R. Strube of Estherville. The couple raised three daughters and owned and operated Culligan Soft Water Service in the community. In October of 1964, the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona. Jewell began a 23-year career as an associate at J.C. Penney's stores. She continued to love and care for her family, friends, neighbors as few others could compete. Jewell set an example of hospitality well into her 80's.

Jewell was the consummate homemaker. She loved to cook and was noted to be creative in the kitchen. She loved to bake for friends and family, whether it was making lemon meringue pie from scratch or creating many kinds of cookies and breads for her favorite holiday (Christmas). Jewell enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and sewing clothes for her children and grandchildren. She loved to read, dance, garden, spend time celebrating friends, and watch hummingbirds. She surrounded herself with her favorite color blue. Jewell was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church.

She is survived by six siblings, and three daughters. Her daughters are Paula Rhyne (Robert), Cheryl Gibbons (Robert), and Kathy Lyn. Six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren (the 7th born May 31, 2019) and one great-great grandson. Her siblings are: Joyce Hiney, Doris Klingbeil, Clayton Hall, Clyde Hall, Donna Lange, and Sharon Sents. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery on July 27th at 10:30 A.M. with a luncheon following at First Christian Church of Estherville. In lieu of flowers, please wear bright clothing and/or donate to your local food bank.
