John worked for K&M Sales and Motor Inn before starting his railroad career.

John worked as an engineer for the Rock Island and Union Pacific Railroads for 27 years. He was the fourth generation of working for the railroad totaling over 200 years.

John met Carrie Weirather and they later married in August of 2008.

John was nothing short of a hard worker, but he loved a good break to just be outdoors. He enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, model trains and cheering on the Green Bay Packers.
