EMMETSBURG - Having lost to Emmetsburg just two weeks earlier by 17 points, Estherville Lincoln Central came ready with a plan to slow the E'Hawks offense on Thursday.

That plan worked in a low-scoring game and with the Midgets down a regular starter in Kaitlyn Tendal, who was home with the flu.

Trailing 34-33, two free throws by ELC's Jordyn Stokes in the final minute put ELC up 35-34.

The E'Hawks had several shots at the basket, but couldn't convert, as the Midgets escaped with the win.

"The people on the floor played their heart out," said ELC coach Don Martindale. "Our kids executive the game plan to a 'T'."

Emmetsburg led 11-10 after one quarter, but ELC led 19-15 at half-time and 27-24 entering the final frame.

Jaydan Nitchals led ELC with a game-high 23 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor and 9-of-13 from the free throw line. She also hit two 3-pointers as she passed Josie Condon for the school record in 3-pointers in a season with 56. Condon made 55 3-pointers last season.

"I couldn't do it without my teammates finding me," said Nitchals of the record. She also had 11 rebounds in Thursday's win.

Jadynn Moore chipped in six points while Adrienne Rosfjord, Jordyn Stokes and Amara Heinrichs each had two points.

Emmetsburg's floor leader, Molly Schany, was held to just four points after scoring 28 against the Midgets on Jan. 23. Abbie Schany led the E'Hawks with 16 points on Thursday.

ELC (14-6 overall, 6-3 in the Lakes Conference) ends the regular season at home Tuesday against Spencer. The Midgets will host Algona at 7 p.m., Saturday in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
